Eating Well

Bwyd Sir Gâr Food works closely with Hywel Dda University Health Board’s Dietetics Team to create and deliver opportunities for people across Carmarthenshire to improve their food skills; to learn more about good food and to find out more about accessing nutritious, healthy food.

Here are some of the ways you can learn more about eating well.

Future Generations Menu

In 2023, Carmarthenshire County Council commissioned the ‘Future Generations Menu’ research and development to look at the integrated impact of delivering the county’s current school menus.

Sustainable Food Procurement Hubs

From September 2022 until June 2023, Social Farms & Gardens led an innovative pilot in Wales using community food hubs to supply the public sector with fruit and veg from local, nature-friendly growers.

Healthy Start

The Healthy Start scheme is a Government initiative that provides eligible families with a Healthy Start card with money on it to spend on milk; fresh, frozen, and tinned fruit and vegetables; fresh, dried, and tinned pulses, and infant formula milk.

Nutrition skills training for community workers / health professionals

The Hywel Dda Health Improvement Dietetic Team provides nutrition skills training for community workers such as nursery nurses, youth workers, care workers, teaching assistants, volunteers and many more. They aim to work with community workers to build food and nutrition skills into the everyday work of those who are in regular contact with community groups and who best understand the needs of local people.
